03 6.0 turbo issues
My father in law bought this truck new and has had 3 turbos replaced by the stealership (under warranty) to date. After leaving my house for a 2 hour drive home over Mt Hood with 6%-7% grades and a empty truck he said his turbo sounded like it had a metal to metal sound coming from it.With 3 turbos already replaced is their a problem with the turbos for this year f250 ? This truck sits inside and has 15k miles on it.I have 99 7.3 125k with no problems thus far.Is this normal for the 6.0 ?

Well i do not know if the turbos on your fathers truck have been replaced with the latest re-designed model. But i wil tell you that with only 15K miles on a 2003 PSD that these trucks do not like to sit, and the turbo vanes can rust/corrode from long periods of sitting. This will cause the turbo vanes to stick and cause over boost and other problems.
Also, are you sure he is just not hearing the "Visconic" fan clutch on the radiator fan locking and unlocking. The PCM controls the fan and locks and unlocks it as needed. When it is locked up it is very noisy, and your dads truck had to be working pretty hard climbing a 6-7% grade.
Oh yeah FYI, one more thing the "Stealership" comments will get your posts passed over by the resident Ford Diesel techs as they find these remarks very offensive.
Good luck

He seems to think its a metal on metal sound I was wondering if he is not getting enough oil in the turbo shaft area and he is hearing noise from there. Is it possible from sitting that he is not getting the proper amount of oil, or possibly plugged up oil passages in the turbo.Im also wondering why 3 turbos could go out that quickly.I will talk to him and see if he noticed any performance loss also.

6spd,
The threr turbos went bad from the truck sitting. The vanes rust/corrode and stick. The turbo has been redesigned with more vane clearance to help prevent this and also the PCM is reflashed to cycle the vanes.
These trucks do not like to sit. He needs to take it out at least once a week and drive it hard
