Exhaust Questions

Test drove a F150 with a catback, before I ordered my truck.
Liked the sound of the exhaust but seemed somewhat annoying at highway speed, alot of droning I guess you would call it, and think that it may get old after awhile.
Never had a aftermarket exhaust on my truck, I dont know much about them, but think this time around im gonna splurge.
Climbed underneath a couple days later to see what brand exhaust it was. There was no name stamped on the muffler. So im stumped, what should I be looking for, I know they make different "levels" of these things so how do I pick the right one that wont drive me nuts driving down the highway?

Thanks

If you want sound over performance go with flow master. If you want performance over sound go with magnaflow. I have flowmaster on my truck, its a 04 reg cab 4.6l.
I went with the super 40 muffler and dual out the back. At cruzin speeds i can just barely here mine. If i turn on the radio i cant hear it at all. But you can here it when your accelerating. It sounds so sweet very deep sound. I still get chills when i romp on it and i've had the flowmasters for about 3 months now. I mainly chose flowmaster
because they were cheaper and better sounding in my opinion.

Yup, flowmaster will give you some tone, and depending on the series, drone. I had them on my Mustang and I really liked the sound when accelerating but the highway drone was a bit much. I put a dual out Magnaflow on my truck. Only hear it when accelerating...much more mellow than the flowmasters, but a nice tone none the less.

For the Flowmasters I believe the 40 series are the loud ones. I believe it's all a function of size, the smaller the muffler the louder it is. In the Mags I don't believe that any of the cat-back packages have a drone issue, so you're safe with either the dual out 16614 (SIDO) or the swept side version (SISO) 16612 (I think that's the right number). Although I've heard the latter is a bit louder.

Listened to Tylus's magnaflow here
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...ust-noise.html
anybody got a link for a flowmaster?

I looked over at the Flowmaster and Magnaflow sites, I think the truck I drove had a flowmaster on it.
Why...Looking at the systems the Magnaflow has a chrome/stainless steel look to it, whereas the flowmaster looks like steel or brushed aluminum. So unless theres a 'ripoff' of a flowmaster that looks the same then its probably the flowmaster. Which series would be the next question..

I've gotta recommend the Magnaflow for a few reason. I wish that video did my exhaust more justice.

1. I've got the 16614 (SIDO) dual exhaust is the only way to go
2. nice rumble while accelerating and when 40 mph or slower. once you're on the highway it gets really quiet. I cannot hear it all with the radio off while going 75 mph, combined with the CAI, it gets downright loud when I stomp it.
3. it's all SS, with the polished SS tips.
4. everybody and their Chevy has a flowmaster...I wanted something different but still sounds like a V-8

tylus,
I did a search last night here for exhaust and its unreal with the info that came up. I was pretty sure i was gonna go with the magnaflow but somethings come to mind..

#1. At somepoint there seemed to be a issue with the magnaflow, a crewcab with the long bed and a factory hitch. I dont remember the particulars as I read so much and it was getting late and I was gettin a little punchy.

#2. The cold air intake as you mentioned above, I was planning on one of these too but now dont know if I should with the increase in loudness.

#3. You wouldnt happen to have a video from say the off ramp to highway to higway driving would you.

I am a big fan of the Bassani line. Here are some clips on my truck.

I would really stick with Magnaflow if you like performance. Flowmasters make good sound but seem to actually hurt performance on these trucks.

The magnaflow fitment issue is not with the longer bed on the crew, its with the factory hitch. It has to be slightly modified to work correctly.

Gibson is another good brand to look at, comparable in performance and sound to magnaflow, and they also offer aluminized systems which can save you a few bucks.

We sell most the systems available for your truck right here:

An intake will be a great addition down the line as well, these trucks respond very well to the increased airflow. Then I would recommend a tuner for sure. This whole mod thing is a slippery slope, youll soon find out

cheers
