Thumbs up truck finally fixed - first long trip this weekend

Well after two weeks my truck is finally running good. Finally took it to a diesel shop. The guy found the wires going to the IPR were worn through and shorting out. Seems to be running good.

Took about a 750 mile trip this weekend turkey hunting in Nebraska. Towed about 2500lb trailer. On the way out I was going about 79mph, got 12.9mhg. Way back going about 68 got 13 mpg, but fought the wind a lot. Does this sound Ok or should I have gotten better? Seemed like the truck lacked alittle power also. Truck is completly stock. Accept i did the Napa air filter upgrade.

Felt goooood to finally be driving my truck.

Do I need to do anything before I add a DP chip?

Truck is a 01 F350 CCLB auto 4x4 with 141,000 on it.

Glad to hear the trucks runnin good. Before going with a chip, you should get gauges, and an exhaust since you already have the intake.

What gauges should I get, tranny temp and boost? Also what tuner works with a DP chip?

Thanks,

Tom

Doesn't sound to bad for towing. I get between 10 and 11 pulling my 5er. Lot's of stuff contribute to lower mileage when towing, like to much drag, weight, speed, wind, crummy winter fuel, hills, etc.
You should at least get gauges when you hook up the DP. It will build heat real fast if your not paying attention. Your tranny could use a valve body also unless you baby it. Some say you need it anyway.
By the way, did you get your turkey? I didn't get to go on our opener this year.

Yeah, nice Tom with a 10 inch beard. Saw a mountain lion also. Biggest problem was back in Iowa we had 6 inches of rain on Saturday night, flooded the basement. Real nice to come home to that.
Are guages very hard to hook up?

Thanks,

Tom

Pyro, tranny temp, boost------these are a must have. You don't need a tuner with the DP, it's a stand alone shift on the fly unit--------very nice!

That's cool, seeing a big cat is usually a once in a life time deal. Big bird is neat too.

Where exactly were the wires worn through?

The guy said it was right before the actual IPR. Seems so simple, but after he fixed them, no codes, no light, runs good. Actually, when I picked the truck up, I started down the highway. I really laid into the pedal, just to see what it had. Light did come on, but only for about 2 minutes. Truck still ran fine and light went off. Ran fine for the next 750 miles and still going. I really hope that is it.

Thanks for your help on this Kwikkordead.

Man, I'm glad you're finally driving. Those MPG #s are not ideal though. Don't want to be a spoil sport but they actually suck. Probably because of the 79mph speed. You will find that anytime you go past 2k rpm or about 70 mph with the truck, the economy goes in the crapper. Folks getting 16-18 mpg must be going about 60 mph because after that, the drag on the truck alone begins to really pull mpgs down. Glad it's fixed though, I hated your truck buying experience.

Tom...you really ought to consider an auxillary tranny cooler. The tranny, pulling weight, can get hot and heat will kill that auto faster than anything.
