I'm curious what other states charge to register your old trucks. I just paid $112.00 for one year. $30 went to the custom license plate. I'm in California.
In Maryland it's just $51 for two years. That's for "historic" registration meaning the vehicle is over 25 years.
I'm running with vintage Maryland tags from 1953 and it cost another $25 (one time) to register to use those tags legally. I have to keep the modern tags inside the truck with current stickers.
Here in Ohio, they are somewhere around the high twenties, and you only have to register once. No annual renewal. Glory be, I couldn't believe it. I don't know how old it has to be to get that deal, mine is a 1951
Here in Illinois
a regular truck plate is 78.00 a year
an antique plate is 30.00 for 5 years and you can run year of vehicle plates
but this plate is only for show parade and service use
so this year I saved some money and changed to antique plates
30.00 for replate and 18.00 for the last 2 years of the 5year plate
Joe
It's $25 for a non-expiring antique tag in KS. You can run the correct year of your vehicle, or you can pay for a "vanity" antique plate which also doesn't expire. I'm actually surprised, this state usually isn't that reasonable.
By the way, still looking for a nice '51 truck plate for KS on eBay. They have cool little metal tags which add-on to the '51 for '52 and '53. I've got a nice one of those. The last nice '51 truck tag on eBay got sold for $202.50! Freakin' OUCH! That was a rare "lost" plate that doesn't have a county. I can find some random counties, but wanting one from SN county or CQ county...

The plates for my 48 F-3 are only $6.00 a year because it is an antique (any vehicle over 20 years old) but my 2005 Dodge Dakota was over $400 a year when it was new. It's still over $300 even now. License plates in NH are a rip off because you have to pay a town tax based on it's original purchase price plus a state charge of about $40 for the plates themselves. As the years pass and the value of the vehicle decreases then the town tax decreases but the state charge stays basically the same...

In CA it based on what the vehicle is worth. Don't try fudging either, the CA DMV has value guides. They start out by asking what you paid. If you paid below what the DMV's guide states, you still pay the registration based on what their guide says it's worth.
Ohio is twenty years or older for antique trucks or cars. Jim you are right, they never expire and the police don't care how often you drive it as long as it is insured.
Havi,
Here in MN, after you own the classic for a year - collector plates are one time charge of $25.
I scored a "NEW-UNUSED" set of farm truck plates for my 52 for 60$ The guy has a bunch more if you are interested.
If your truck is a 1960, it wouldn't have had black plates when new. Black plates were first issued in 1963. Prior to 1963, the CA plates were yellow with black letters (1956/62).
Number Dummy is correct, I have the yellow and black plates for my 56 (which are not registered with DMV) My 66 Mustang, which was purchased original in 66 has the black and yellow plates on it. Registration for the Mustang is only $56. My truck is more???
