i have 2.5inch add a leaf on front and 350 spacers on back of my 02 psd.i just put in rancho9000x and an not impressed with them.i called rancho and they said theyn are for 4 inch lift and they dont make shocks for 2.5inch..any ideas whats the way to go?thanks.
The shocks aren't going to provide you with the height, it would be the add a leafs. The shocks are just going to give you the ride quality. What are you not impressed about with the shocks? They say that the shocks are for 4 inchs of lift, but you only lifted it 2.5 inchs. The 4 inch shocks will fit anything with up to 4 inchs of lift. And your truck has 2.5 inchs, i don't see why you would want to get rid of them, theyll work. Unless your unhappy with ride quality?
i couldnt get them to adjust to get the ride quality i would ezpect from new shocks so i called rancho and they told me that the 9000x is too big for 2.5 inch lift ,will fit 4 inch lift only,,they said the shock will bottom out because not enough travel space.i have about 4 inches of the shock extended when truck in park so is it possible it bottoms out when i hit a bump?sorry about the confusion..
Are you talking about when you go over a bump and the shock bottoming out, like the shock piston coming out of the shock body? Or are you talking about when you go over a bump that the shock piston will hit the bottom of the shock body?
it seems like its hitting bottom o f shock bottom,no matter which number i set the dial to i dont feel any difference in the ride i didnt install the rear ones yet but would that effect the front ones?
Konan that is correct. You are not able to allow the shock to extend properly which will keep the compression very high once you do hit a bump or hole. You will need to either lift the truck or change those shocks. The shocks are very good shocks if set up properly. I would suggest and I think I eat will agree with me would be for you to lift the truck the 4 inches. The ride will be great. Suspension lifts today are nothing like in the past. Also having the 9000's you can adjust your style of driving. I went 6inches with procomp and mx6. I love the ride I have being I can adjust it. If I want to ride stiff I can but it is still not worse than a F350 ride and can make it softer just like the stock excursion was. Let us know what you do.
thanks for the insight into what the real cause of my problem was ,i was beginning to think i was totally helpless nor being able to get the adjustment right! i cant come up with money for suspension lift right now so i guess i will replace shocks with same size as standard.would rancho rsx be a good way to go?
Rancho makes good shocks for a lot of different applications. While doing that you might want to put a new rancho steering stableinzer on also if you havent chnaged that out.
Rancho part number for the RS9000X for a 2000 - 2005 Excursion 4x4 with 0 - 3" of lift is: RS99267 front & RS99266 rear
4" lift is: RS99264 front & RS99275 rear
I had the RS99267 & RS99266 on my X with a 1.5" lift from an add-a-leaf. I was not impressed with the RS9000 shocks, I could never get them to feel right , they were either too soft with too much body roll like with setting 1 & 2 and anything over 3 was too stiff except for towing. I have the Donahoe Racing Signature Series shocks now and they are a much better ride.
would the donaghue shocks work with 2.5 inch lift front and 350 spacers on rear?i took off the ranchos today and put orignals back on untill i get something else.
