Anyone else having this problem? I use Ford/Motorcraft parts exclusively in my '94 F250. I purchased an FG872 fuel filter from my local Ford dealer. When I installed it, I did not realize that one of the nipples was too short as I was pushing the fuel connector onto the filter. When I finally got it to click into place, I noticed that there was no slack for the fuel lines, and the mounting bracket would not line up. THEN I noticed that the connector was all the way against the filter body leaving no room for the safety clip! I also realized that my connector removal tool would not be able to fit for removal the next time. So... I hacksawed the nipple off the filter, pulled it out of the connector and compared the new filter to the old one, and lo and behold, the nipple I hacked off was much shorter than it should be. So here is the moral of the story, even though you buy OEM parts, and even when the part numbers are correct, compare the new part to the one you are replacing. That way you are not forced into an unsafe service procedure (hacksawing on a fuel system is very dangerous), or you have a service difficulty resulting in a break down.
Yeah, but the part I got from ford said "Made in USA"! However...It did not have all the other markings on it like the old filter did; like branding in English and French with the "Motorcraft" logo on it. The new one just said "Motorcraft" in a plain dot matrix font.
Thats why I ONLY buy OEM. After market parts are made god knows where. I will buy an OEM if it is made in Mexico, Canada, Japan or Europe though. But I draw the line at crap from China! It looks like most new cars contain some chinese parts. What a disgrace. Quality and durability is always compromised with chinese parts in the electronics field, so it should be no different if not worse with car parts. When the parts guy at my Ford dealer hands me a part that is made in China, I think that I will throw in the towel and sell my truck and give up on life! Sigh!
