i have a 88 clubwagon w 5.0.though the fuel relay went bad because i didnt hear any of the pumps werent coming on.going to start with starting fluid,so i no its has spark.now the pumps come on .what else do i need to check
Are you sure that the fuel pumps didn't run? They only run briefly until the engine starts, I believe. I forget what signals that the engine has started.
If they do run briefly -- maybe you have a hard starting problem ( fuel pressure low, etc. Using starting fluid might have been enough.
Ford always talks about the inertial switch -- but you're saying that the pumps run once the engine starts -- so, that's probably not it.
Otherwise, maybe there's a problem with the start connections in the ignition switch/wiring. If it's not sending juice to the pump when in the start position, that might cause your problem. Once you start it with starting fluid, and the switch is in run, it 's getting juice through the run circuit.
what does the tfi module do?it run running fine on friday.run out of gas at home put fuel into it,didnt start again.if something electrical went..would it still start with ether.
