Botched 2150 rebuild

Did my first carb rebuild but somehow overlooked installing the power valve gasket. Gas was apparently leaking through the valve threads into the vacuum port and caused a severe rich condition. When I investigated why the fuel bowl was empty after it filled, I discovered gas leaking out the large vacuum line into the power valve. Had to pull off the carb again, found the mistake and now it runs great. One strange observation, contrary to common practice: the idle air screws were out 4.5 turns when I pulled it the first time. I reset them to 1.5 turns but the 302 wouldn't even try to start until I backed the screws back out to over 4 turns. My whole problem began after reading in my Chilton repair manual to use teflon tape on the screw-in fuel filter threads at the carburetor fuel inlet. Bad mistake! Never use tape; it got into the needle valve and plugged it up. Being an '84 truck, the carb probably needed a rebuild anyway but who needs more problems?

Yup, shouldn't use teflon tape on fuel lines beceause they eat them up. Some people might argue with me there but everyone I know who has tried it has had your problem so that's good enough evidence for me.

The 4 turns out means you have a vacuum leak. You shouldn't have to go out much more than 2 turns on a 302.
