roof/sunroof question

Hey, I have an 89 f150, I've been debating whether or not to install a sunroof I've been eyeing up the sunroofs out of the first model ford explorers, but not sure how well it will line up. the biggest obstacle is right now is that i don't know how much space is between the two cab roof layers, it just looks like too much space for a sunroof to span. I guess right now any input would be appreciated. thanks.

I'm guessing like 2 1/2 inches between the two roof panels, (anyone who's had their cab cut apart)?? sunroofs never seem that deep but i suppose they must be, anybody have any experiance cutting and installing? not worried about cutting the hole itself or sealing the roof i just wanna know if the depth will work out okay.

Boy do I ever feel like an idiot, I finally walked over to the truck opened the door put one hand on the inside panel one on the outside panel, and pushed them together until they touched. I know it's not an accurate measurement but for some reason i always imagined a larger gap than that I guess the next step is buying a sunroof, and I suppose possibly a headliner if it looks bad without one.

It's not so bad really, just remember, measure twice, cut once. You can do the headliner yourself, it's pretty simple too.

I actully found a free sunroof out of an 87 t-bird, looks like a better fit than what the explorer ones would be. I've gotta put the project on hold for right now having a few areas that need attention first, and I need to wait until i'm somewhere to get a tan headliner kit to redo my blue headliner and some paint for the other interior panels(saddle colored seat/dash with headliner + blue interior panels out of an xlt) When I get back to this project I will be taking pictures of the process.

According to Mr. Tape Measure, the older, boxy town car's sunroof is very close. Also, the roof of this towncar is "very flat" which means the sunroof panel is also flat.
