What do you use your truck for?

I am curious as to what you guys use your vehicles for? Is it a highway queen? Work commuter? Off-road toy? What do you use your truck for?

I use mine for a daily driver. I am a student so I am in ND for the winters which can get nasty so I love/need my 4 wheel drive. I also like to take the truck off-road from time to time. During the summer its my work truck. I do service for a low-voltage communications company which entails working on CCTV, fire alarms, etc. I carry a lot of tools and parts in the truck so I need the space that the SUV offers. Now I also have a Mustang GT for my fun car, so the Explorer is really my workhorse and crappy weather toy.

Chris -

We use our '04 primarily as a daily driver/grocery getter, plus TV to get our boat into and outta the lake. In fact, we did that yesterday; I think Spring is finally here!

When the wife takes our Ex to Laughlin or State Line, I use the Dune Buggy to putt around town; lotsa fun to drive as long as the weather cooperates.

Sounds like your 'Stang is pretty healthy.

Steve

Mine is a daily driver. It has carried it's share of grocerys. I also use it for trips to Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. So it has seen a bunch of highway miles. Then when I get there it does a few off road trails. I can also sleep in the back as I love to camp in remote areas. So it is my micro mini motor home also.

"Green" is a 94 Sport.

Mine is my winter beater and sometimes my tow vehicle... the more miles I put on it the less I like to tow with it. I am at 207k and still on the original tranny and motor (I bought it used at 172k for a very very good price)... with the winter this past month I have been very happy to have something to drive that lets me leave my car (even if it is only a Mazda) in my driveway

My mechanic's skills are also being honed on this vehicle as I now have a house and can do some basic stuff at home...

My 94 Explorer gets me back and forth to college that I commute 20 miles to every day. Even though it's bone stock besides the sound system and window graphics, it still likes to take a mudbath once in awhile. In the winter it can often be seen taking turns sideways and doing donuts in parking lots.

I've never towed anything with it other than pulling out people who get stuck in the winter. No need to beat it up when my dad has an F350 for that.

I've done it all in this truck (94 XLT, 4.0L, A4LD, all original). I've owned it since 1999 with 53,000 miles. I now have 263,000.

Primarily, it's my daily driver. Other than my wife's car (which she uses for daily driving), it's my only vehicle. Used to do a ton of highway driving for work (used to travel 6+ hours one way, stay for a week, come back, do it again the next week). Now I have a 20-mile (one way) commute on normal roads.

I live in NE, so the 4x4 gets lots of use in the winter. It also gets use offroad when I go to cut firewood several times a year. I've hauled wood in the cargo area, and I more recently bought a utility trailer which holds a lot more.

I've used this Explorer for towing, both the utility trailer and a boat trailer, which I have taken as far as Florida and back. There were a few years when I would do long trips with the boat every weekend from April to October, never had a problem.

I also used to sleep in the back, until I bought an RV. So, it does less towing now (hardly ever use it for the boat, the RV pulls that), and no more camping duty. The cargo area does get its use for groceries and Home Depot trips.

It is starting to worry me a little. I've put off some maintenance, and I'm catching up on that, but lately, it seems like I'm getting more and more "nuisance" CELs (various electical components seem to be reaching the end of thier useful life).

And, it leaks just about every fluid you can imagine. I really don't want to start pulling it apart for big jobs (manifolds, head gaskets, power steering, etc.) just to fix leaks, because I don't have a second vehicle to allow me to take my time with the bigger projects.

But, it runs "strong like bull," starts every day and has very little rust, and a negative net worth, so I'm running it until it says "Uncle..."

Mike

Our 97 and 92 are daily drivers, and first response rescue. Carry lots of gear in them and tow on a regular basis.

Do y'all run volunteer in the great white north? I am a Firefighter / First responder here. Both of my current Explorers and the retired '92 have run their share.
