Hello does any one know of a high pressure oil pump for a 98 4.0.I am looking for a way to help the oiling of the engine more so for the upper vavle train.Waht I am talking about is the rocker shaft area and the push rods.So if anyone has some info it would help thanks.

It's pretty much been accepted practice that you don't use a high pressure/volume oil pump unless the engines' been built(blueprinted) for it. This includes radusing and enlarging certain oil passages, polishing the valley under the intake(increases oil return rate to the pan), and a high volume oil pan and longer oil pickup from the pump itself. If you install one in a stock engine, you'll cause more problems than anything.

With too much oil in the valve covers, you run the risk of driving some into the PCV system and fouling it up, but on a OHV engine, the hydraulic lifters pump and generally regulate how much oil the top end gets. I would think that you're best bet to guarantee the health of your top end valve train would be to invest in a new set of hydraulic lifters, a throrough cleaning of the push rods, the best make of stock oil pump you can find, and aluminum valve covers. Depending on the mileage, you might be looking at a valve job anyway at some point if you plan to keep the truck.

I can't remember if they had it in th '98, but if its the OHC, it's a different story. I haven't a lot of experience with them, but with no push rods, the oil delivery is straight from the oil pump. In wich case I'd think you would definitely flood the top end with a high flow pump.

Keep doing the research and I'm sure more of the guys'll chime in with more thoughts. Sounds like a good point for a sticky.

Flintstone thanks for the info it does make alot of sense.I know that there is away to turn the rockers into a free flowing system and I was wondering if any one has done this and what kind of gain did they get in the oiling part.Well thanks again.
