i have a friend that has a 97 4.0 explorer. i replaced her Thermostat and the Heater Control Valve because it was leaking from the valve. they didnt have heat before i replaced this and still does not have heat with the new parts. all four of the hoses to the heater are very hot. only able to hold for 5 to 15 sec before it gets too warm in the hands.
does anyone know what may be the problem here and what to check. i have a 86 f250 and i had the same problem. no hot air but both hoses was very hot. took glove box off and removed the cover from the heater core and had like a hand full of pens and junk holding the door open. removed all the junk and closed her up and bingo hot air in vents.
do you think she has the same problem i had and is it just like my truck. throu the glove box and into the heater core department?
thank you
Faulty blend door motor (there's several), which opens/closes the appropriate door in the Plenum Chamber when the selector on the dash is moved. If the door won't open, no heat (or a/c..depending on the mode) will come out. There are vacuum lines to those motors also, they can either pull off, bind or crack.
Very common on Fords to have these faulty motors. Things can roll forward on the dash, and drop into defroster vents, as you discovered.

I can't honestly say, sorry. There's more than one of the motors, also. Check the vacuum lines before anything. They will crack or pull off where they push onto the top of the motor. The motors are dome shaped on top with a male tube sticking out. The rest of the motor has an attaching bracket and a sliding gizmo that opens/closes the door.
