My mother has a '05 explorer eddie bauer, it only has about 4,000kms on it. Now, we are experiencing a whistling noise it almost sounds like an instrument playing a note. It's not always there but you can hear it and its very annoying.
WE complained to the dealership, they chyanged the pulleys and the alternator (under warranty). We thought that it would be take care of it but once again the noise is back again. The noise will happen even at an idle, has anybody had this problem before? I would like to get some views before i bring it back to ford again so i can give them some ideas on what to check or look out for.
The truck runs fine other than the whistling noise.
The noise sounds like it's coming from the rear of the vehicle. the sound is very hard to explain, it's almost like the sound when you open the back hatch up fast and i makes a little whistling noise. It's intermittent so it's very hard to trace.
It will make the sound while driving or at a stop but the engine has to be running.
Next time you hear the noise, stop the truck and with the engine running, walk around to the rear of the vehicle and find the location where the sound is loudest. That might give the Ford tech a clue.
My guesses are either an exhaust leak or a noisy fuel pump. There are several TSBs on this year Explorer concerning a whining sound from the rear axle, but this would only happen with the vehicle in motion.
the idler pulley was changed along with the alternator. Like i said the noise is intermittent and it will only happen for a second or two. I wish it would make the sound longer so i could do a walk around but thats just not the case. In fact, i've been driving it today and it hasn't made a sound. I hate these kindof of noises, it just means that it's going to spend a long long time at the dealership. I told the guys at ford that its still happening and boy they weren't too thrilled to hear that. Last time the truck was in the shop for almost 2 weeks!
Another thing is that it sounds like it's coming from the inside of the truck. I want to hear it again before i bring it back to the dealership, hopefully i'll be able to pin point it.
Come to think of it, it almost sounds like a fart rather than a whistling noise. You know the kindof farts that sound like a musical note? lol. I'm very serious though, i think that is the best description of the sound that it makes.
It's described as a hooting sound. After some research i've done on the forums here. I have found out that a lot of people have had the same problem. Supposedly, the problem is with evaporator casing in the front. If you have it changed the hooting noise will go away. I brought the Explorer to ford today and told them what it could be. I have my fingers crossed...
Did Ford cure the problem? My 07 Eddie Bauer has this noise but only noticed it during a road trip - moving or stopped. Short runs around town doesn't create the noise. It sounds to me like maybe coming from the fuel pump area (driver side rear).
