Explorer 04 vs 05 and v6 vs v8

Explorer 04 vs 05 and v6 vs v8
I am looking at 04-05 Explorers. Any particular issues to be aware of with either of these years? What about the v6 or the v8? Any issues with either of these in those two years?

I had an '02 with the V6 and traded it for my current '04 V8. I like it much better but I use it for towing; highway mpg is about the same, city mpg a little better with the V6.
Two things to watch for:
If it has the towing package, there have been issues with the clutch packs in the LS rear ends being noisy and needing replacement
Some trannies had the wrong formula fluid installed at the factory and need an additive to correct; your dealer can tell by the VIN if this applies
