37 with a new lease on life

[IMG][/IMG]

This isn't a current pic and although the appearance hasn't changed, the 37 has a new lease on life. All mechanicals were done, to put her back on the road, with everything stock with the exception of a close to as original interior as possible.
I am getting anxious for spring to arrive so as to get to drive her on the country roads, where life is at a slower pace. You can drive along at 20 and enjoy the scenery, or 50 if your heading some where and not in a hurry to get there.
It was a long trek in getting her road worthy again, but with the great help of a few of the club members, she is once again going to be driven. The body will remain the same as you see it, untouched and original.

I saw your pic on Fordban, nice truck.

I'd still have to paint it though...hate to see the elements tear it up

I kind of am tossing the idea around of maybe a clear coat on it in a satin type finish.
I have also been told that a good wax will preserve the existing finish. As far as the elements go, it will always been indoors when not in use. The fenders on this truck still retain the original paint on the underside, its amazeing how well preserved this truck really is.
It had a hard life, given the fact of the roads back then, but a truck so I am told was something that you looked after, as they were hard to come by during the war years. Yes it has been on the Ford Barn, and Shelley also had it put in the calendar.
Thanks for the reply on the truck and I will think the thought over on the preservation, but as far as the repaint for now none.

That would be noce to find something you could wax/spray over and preserve the look as-is.

Please let us know what you use and the results.

That old girl is defintely a timemachine!

I love how it looks, it just shows the history and the life that it has lead for the last 70 years. You can always restore a truck and make it shiny, but you can never get that authentic weathered look just right. It takes 70 years of hard work to do that. I say seal it some how, and let her be.

Gary, that old truck in your Avatar sure looks genuine. You just don't see these around to often.
Are you going to leave it as is, with all the natural Patina? I have always liked the look of the 42-47 Pickups, had a couple myself. Bought my first one off the original owners farm in Iowa. The title was still in his name, although he had passed his sons ran the farm and were still useing the truck, up until 2 years before I bought it.
We got her up and running, and I didn't even get to drive it more than a mile, when a friend bought it from me.
Now the truck is stored in a good dry place, and is used in the movie industry.
Old Pickups have always been my choice, I like them all. Got to go now so thanks for your comment and hope you look after that Old Gal in your Avatar.

I've thought about leaving it. It's the factory original orange paint, which is a very uncommon factory color. It's got some rust, but for having spent the first 32 years of it's life in Flathead County, MT before coming to the Hollywood area of California in 1979 it's in pretty good shape.
If I don't leave it in the factory paint, then I will probably repaint it again in the same orange, which is a little brighter than it looks in the picture. I will probably have to get it matched off some place in the interior, like under the dash or gas tank.

Gary, do you suppose that your truck migh have been painted the Orange for Road Works Dept?
Seems like an odd Color for some reason. Unless it maybe was an Orange Crush delivery truck, or maybe a fleet color for a company.
Do you have the paint number, if so maybe I can look it up for you, no promises, on results but worth a try.

I have no idea why it was painted orange. I've wondered myself, but can't think of anything. There is no signs of lettering on the doors, just a plaque on the bed sides saying "under 6,000". I've figured it must have been a fleet vehicle, just not sure for what exactly. Only option it has is dual visors and heater.
I have no paint numbers, probably will just have to have a shop just match it.

Gary

Just found a 1939 Ford Truck on Ebay item 220083331188 its has the Orange Color, I guess like yours once was.
The seller says the Truck has been restored back to original. Also the part that got me t thinking what you had said in an earlier post, that your Truck came out of MT.
This one is in WY., and could possibly have come from the same fleet that your 46 Ford came from.
Maybe you could contact him and he just may give you the proper Color Code for the Paint.
Let me know if you made contact with him and if you got the code.

Have you got a pic of your 37 find? Would like to see the truck, sounds like your going to beef it up a little for a driver.
Nothing wrong with that, just stay with it once you start it will be worth it in the end.
Just about all I need now is to find a half decent Grille for mine, and she will be back to looking her old self.
