Does anyone know of a source for cab corner patch panels for a 40-47 1/2 ton? Mine are going and I'm not handy with an English wheel or I'd fabricate my own.
DML - didn't want to leave you out here hanging for too long. I've been looking through all the books & magazines we have at home and have been unable to find anything. Someone said you can get them through Bob Drake, but all I found there was for newer models. (50's & up)
Luckily we only have very small rust holes on the floor board inside the cab where the carpet laid and the lower part of the doors. The cab's perfect with the exception of a small dent on the roof.
You may want to try what we did with the lower door parts.
Steve CAREFULLY pryed and cut the lower part of the outer door skin off and took it to the local metal shop. They formed and bent the new ones and only charged us $25 for the pair.
Hi, I'm still looking for cab corners for my 40 but every catalog I look in is all from 50 up I really don't know where to send you for any info I think I will end up making my own. John
Hi DML,
You can also get the left or right cab corners at; Wolf Steel Restorations,Steel Body Panels. The site is;http://www.alfaparts.net/ford42.htm.
They sell for $70.00 each.
They cover 1940-1947 pickups.
Hope this helps.

Hi, this is Jim - (TrekChick is my WIFE). I couldn't find any patch panels for my '47, so I fabricated them from a metal bucket. The lip on the bottom is close, and it's rounded, so it with a little bending and fabrication, it fit perfectly, and I just welded it right in. Check out my website: www.coolworktrucks.com

That's what I call improvising!!
I have a '31 Dodge PU and nonone make corners for it, mine were rotted out.
I sat around trying to figure out what to do, one day stumbled across a '78-81 Camaro front fender. Got to eyeballing it, and sure enough the front portion was a darn near exact match for what I needed.
Even if patch panels are available, why spend the hundreds of dollars when a little ingenuity can prevail...??_
Depending on how bad the rust is, I would just repair what is needed. Most of the replacement panels are designed to replace the entire section. My 51 only had a couple flat sections rusted out the size of a quarter in each rear corner. I used an air powered die grinder with a wafer thin cutoff wheel and just cut out the bad spots. Then welded in 18ga sheet metal with a Mig welder.
Just an Idea here, but why dont we make a sticky about repair panels. Lets face it, all 42-47 love to rust away, and a mint one is well, Ive never seen one without rust! So Wouldnt a sticky about repair panels by years and then suppliers or something work out great?
