40 Ford 1.5 ton

Hi all,
I'm in process of buying a 1940 1.5 ton fire truck and wanting to know of info sites, parts recommendations, etc. I don't know if this site is also a good place for the larger, commercial size trucks. Often places like these are for 'pickups'. I guess I'm slowly getting enfolded into Ford trucks, as earlier this winter I picked up a 79 F350 4X4, and now this 40 fire truck.
Also, any hints or recommendations on who/how to get this truck from Wisconsin to Colorado?
Thanks for any and all your help, Greg

You may want to do a search in this forum for fire trucks. Be sure to search the archives also. I seam to recall different folks discussing older fire trucks a long time ago. There's also some big truck owners that frequent these boards.

Hopefully someone else will jump in and give you better info.

As for getting the truck, we had a transport company bring our 1/2 ton from N.Dakota to S.Fla. and it was cheaper than us going up and getting it ourselves. We had no beefs about anything and the guy even helped up push it into the garage.

Well, Welcome aboard! Us big truck guys have to stick together! Those little pick up guys are everywhwere. I'm not sure what your plans are for your truck. are you keeping the FD body or going stakebody?www.thisoldtruck.com (discussion board) is a good place to meet and get help (parts). Antique Truck Club of America is also another good site for help. www.dennis-carpenter.com has a online catalog for your parts. www.bobdrake.com is also a good place to look. Sacramento Vintage Ford Parts is another. www.autolit.com will have manuals. motorhaven.autoanything.com will have parts and manuals. Go to www.cutstrucks.com to see a firetruck resto. Good luck!

Sorry, the plan is to keep it as a fire truck. Said to be in working condition, and the original plan was that my friend who is a retired firefighter wanted a classic rig to protect his rural bed and breakfast and to advertise their business. But now he's 'backed out' of the idea. I've spent about a year searching for him, and figure the time saved by not looking is worth the investment in the truck (and I figure it'll continue to appreciate in value). Thanks again.

Hey Greg,

Have you started the restoration on your 1940 fire truck? I would be very interested in any information you have gathered on interior parts. I purchased a 1940 fire truck back in the late 70's. After I finish my current restoration, my fire truck is next in line. Anyway, thank you for any help. John

Welcome to the forum, John. I wish you well on your restoration. Unfortunately, you've tapped into an old thread posted over 20 years ago. It was Greg's last post, so it's unlikely you'll hear back from him. We never did.

Thank you Merc 52 for responding back. Rather-than, letting me hang in the back ground for eternity. You see, this is the first time I have entered into a chat room of any kind. I hope I'm doing this correctly. Anyway, thank you for your correspondence.

John
