Yes another rear end Question

My truck is wrapped up and tucked into a spot I cant get under it to measure until spring.
I found a 58" rear end hub to hub.
Its for a 51 F1.
I looked on the swap info but its not specific to what the info is for.
Any idea if this will work?

The 58 inch rear is slightly narrower than the stock rear at around 61 inches but it should work okay. The rear tires may come close to the bed on the inside so you will have to be careful with wheel offset and tires on the rear. Do you know what it came out of?

Its out of a 60's Falcon.
I know its the car 5 on 4 1/2 but thats what I need.
IM switching to front discs eventualy and I have two sets of 5 on 4 1/2 rims for it already. I also have a warmed up 302 in it.

I hope it was a V8 Falcon (should be with 5-lug rims). The 6-cyl's had a really puke 7.25" or so axle, it will not have the wheel bearings to take a truck load. It is likely an 8", does it have a 3rd member that comes out the front like a 9"? What is the axle tube diameter?

Do as you please but Falcons rarely weighed as much as an empty F-1. I would be concerned about ring & pinion life, too, if you have a hot 302.

Thanks for the advice. I havent seen the rear end yet. IM not building this truck to haul with its just a toy. I know its a five lug 8" and the width. He did say it has a tall road gear in it. Nothing definate yet.

8 Inch rear end

8 inch rear axle assy was introduced in 1962 for use with the V8 221/260 V8 equipped Fairlanes/Meteors. Beginning in 1963, the V8 260 (and later yrs 289/302) Falcons came standard with the 8" rear end. Ford never offered a 9" rear axle on a Falcon.

6 cylinder Falcon's used an integral rear axle. Only in the last year of 1970, were 6 cylinder Falcons equipped with an 8 inch. The 1970 Falcon's were actually Fairlanes, with Falcon badges.

All Mavericks/Comet V8's used an 8".
