I have just bought a 47 1/2 T pu with 54,000 miles very clean and orginal. In looking to get a extra Hub Cap for the spare I find in most catalogs they list a Hub Cap with just plain FORD on it (47-52).
But my Hub Caps have the Wings or lines coming off the FORD like the 46 pu.
Which is really right for a 1947 ????
I know Ford did strange thing- mid year changes ???
I've been trying to find books & manuals - but as of yet nothing that is really informative Restoration info.
The manuals I have for my Model T's sure give alot more detailed info.
Looking thru my various catalogs, reference material and manuals shows pictures of both hubcaps on 47's.
Bob Drake lists both styles for 47 pickups - one in the regular catalog and one way in a sale catalog.
Steve Statham in the book "Ford Pickup Trucks" shows the winged hubcaps on a restored 47.
Mac's lists the winged versions as 46 only with the plain Ford used on 47-48.
Seems like you can take your pick on 47's and since you have 4 already........ I think you're likely right about Ford using whatever was at hand in light of the 48 model change. Sounds like you have a real nice truck. Enjoy!

Hi Tim
I guess you have reinforced my conclusions. I heard that when Model T's were in production if they ran out of one style on one side of the assy line and stocked with different type the T could wind up with different Hub Caps one side to the other. Maybe this is true with my 47.
Thanks

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Feb-02 AT 11:50 PM (EST)]Go with the ones with the lines coming from the Ford logo. Those are correct for '46 cars and trucks. They were used one year only (46) so any left over would most likely have ended up on the next year's trucks. Passenger cars got a new cap in '47, the ones with the FORD in block letters, and no lines. Those were found on some '47 trucks and all 48-56 1/2 tons. I've gone to see a few original '42-'47's and have always seen a mixed bag of styles. Go with what you like.
For manuals try to get an owner's manual for your truck. I always see '47 truck manual on eBay for $7.99, they are reprints. Originals of course cost more. You can get a shop manual at the online store here, and at any Ford restoration place. A good general truck restoration book is "How to Restore Your Ford Truck" by Tom Brownell. Oh, and welcome to the boards, lot's of good info here. Sounds like you got a nice preserved truck, especially good since sheetmetal is hard to find for these trucks, believe me, I've tried.

Well thanks Gary;
Thanks for the info on the Hub Caps.
Yes it is a good truck. The inside front fender panels have a glossy shine & the firewall Paint is shiny with some bare metal spots that are bright bare metal--no rust.. This will sure make it easy to restore. Only bad thing is the tailgate it had a big hole cut
and a grain door installed. I was told the orginal owner drove it once a week to the elevator with a small load of grain.
I also have a 1934 1 /2 Ton plus model T's etc.......

Well, I guess some of the experts have already given their comments as to the right hub caps. On my 1947 PU the originals are the plain with FORD script on. So, the two versions seem to have been available for the 1947 PUs for whatever reason. At any rate let's keep on V8ing.
