??15 pounds of oil pressure is it enough??
I have a 47 ford pickup, and when I start it up ,it will show about 35 pounds of pressure on my gauge, but when it warms up it will go down to about nothing at an idle.If I am driving down the road it will stay about 15 pounds of pressure is this ok????????
thanks for the help Bill
I read somewhere that it takes about 10 pounds of oil pressure to keep an oil pressure light from coming on. I don't remember what application that was, however. It seems to me that you should have at least 10-15 pounds at idle and with the engine at operating temperature, and between 35-40 pounds at speed. If this is a high mileage engine you might want to consider a lower end rebuild. In the meantime, using a higher viscosity oil might help some, but it's not a cure.
