King pin ?

Is there any way to tell if you need king pins or is it just a rule of thumb to replace them. I worked on Peterbilts for a few years and we checked them by the up and down travel. Can these be judged the same way? Mine have no travel and turn very smooth and I was thinking about not messing with them.

You grab the tire at the top and bottom with the wheel off the ground, and try to tip it in and out. If that feels tight, you can make sure by pulling the wheel, and grabbing the brake drum top and bottom and doing the same. If there is no load on it and it's sloppy, you'll be able to see it right away.

Shoot some grease in yours and enjoy a couple years of not having to deal with them!

Before doing this test be sure the wheel bearings don`t have extra play in them....
It can be misleading if they do.
