A while back I purchased a bumper and brackets from ebay. It was suspose to be for the 42-47. When it arrived, it was narrow, maybe less tall is a better description, and both inside bumper braces fastened to a center bolt in the bumper. Later on I bought an additional bumper that was also suspose to fit the same. It was much taller and the brackets were fastened to the bumper using 4 bolts. If anyone can make heads or tails from my descriptions, can you tell me what the first bumper fits.
Thanks for the replies, If I had a Digital camera I could take a picture and stick it in the thread, I will have to scan a picture and then try to put it into the Thread. The first bumper has a groove across the center from one end to the other. Ill measure it up and post later.
The early (thru 40-47) 3/4 + ton truck bumpers had three bolt holes, but were definitely not narrow. I'll check mine tomorrow but as best I can recall 6" wide no groove across the center. The early 1/2 tons had 4 bolt holes about 4" wide with a groove.
The bumper on all 42-47's used 3 bolts to attach to the bumper arms. The outboard bumper bolts are 21" from the center bolt, measured from center of bolt to center of bolt. The bumper is stamped, and about 5-5" wide. There are aftermarket bumpers out there. I have on one of my '46s that is about 4" wide, and is thicker, with less of a curve on the ends, also once chromed. This is not the stock bumper, I have stock bumpers on my other trucks.
Your bumper brackets should also have a 21C on them somewhere if they are stock Ford items.

Any traces of red paint in the center groove of the bumper?
1933 Ford trucks have a groove running through the center of the bumper. There are 2 bolt holes in the center of the groove. The bumper ends do not wrap around.
I've found out over many years of swap-meeting that a lot of parts are mis-labled. That bumper you describe might be off a Studebaker Champion from 1939-1941.
