Maybe this should be in xmission post. but I have a ford-o behind a 57` 312 in a 56`f-100. Will a cruise-o fit a ford-o bellhousing? And would there be be any advantage to this change? Happy Holidays
The bolt pattern should be the same.
That depends, as they both came in 'Single Range' & 'Dual Range' 3 Speeds.
Do you know if you F-o-M is S.R. (P-R-N-D1-L) or D.R. (P-R-N-D2-D1-L) & do you know if your C-o-M is S.R. or D.R. that you wish to swap in?
If you do not know, you just might be defeating the purpass for the swap in the 1st place.
Col Flashman, My f-o-m is S.R. I did not know there was a 3 speed f-o-m [D.R.?]
Is a D.R. c-o-m any better than a D.R. f-o-m ? Thanks for this info I was not aware of. And Happy Holidays
Col Flashman - Thanks for the [new to me] info. I had no idea there was a 3 speed ford-0-matic. proves it, you can learn somthing new every day. Merry Christmas to all and Happy New Year.
Gusso, I have a '56 F100 with a '57 312 with the cruise-o-matic tranny in it too. I didn't know there were any other's out there. I have done a fair amount of work on mine and would be happy to share experiences at any time.

seawolf - My 56 has the S.R. [2speed] ford-o-matic in it and its just fine. I guess I was wondering if a 3 speed cruise-o-matic would massage my ego a little. Your offer to share your experiences is great. seawolf, its guys like you that make this forum the greatest!
The F-o-M S.R. & D.R.'s are Both 3 speeds, but in order to be able to use 1st in the S.R. trans you either have to depress the Throttle peddle to the floor to engage the Kick-down or place the Shift Lever in L & then Manually shift up to D1.
Go to Bendtsen.com and they have a conversion for a AOD for Y Blocks now. This will give you Overdrive and get much better mileage and perfromance
