Angry relocate gas tank in my 1947 in frame?

My budy has a 53 f-1 with the gas tank in the frame under the box, I like that better than having it behind my back as it is my 1960 . Anyone know what year/make of gas tank I can use in the frame itstead of moving my stock tank into the bed, which looks like hell? I really need room in my cab also and could use that space behind my seat for tools and parts. Also I am building a 1947 pickup with the gas tank under the seat and really need room in that cab, maybe a tank under the cab or bed would be nice also. any ideas?

Check out this article on installing a classic Mustang tank in these trucks. Should be easily adapted for a '47 P/U. I measured out the tank of a '66 Mustang fastback I got here with the frame of one my '46 P/Us and it's a near perfect fit.

Only obstacle is the filler comes up through the bed floor.

66 mustang tank you will have to cut approx. 3/4 off of the top of each frame rail and notch the bottom to get an acceptable fit. Test fit first before you cut, depending on the tank manf. the dimension may differ.

I'm thinking on useing a tank out of a 77 Ganada it is sitting on the back of the truck now. the whith is ok (may need some triming) but the crossmember will need to be moved. think I seen this in a classic truck mag but I will have to try to find it.

Granada - thats what I used

Yes - I used a '76 Granada too. Putting in a new crossmember was no big deal. Besides, I wanted one to hold up my tube shocks for the nine inch rear and the stainless dual exhaust system. Rubber tank filler flange seals and pickup flange seals are still available at dealers too - another plus.

In my 47 I put a tank from an early 80s GMC Jimmy or Chevy Blazer, full size, for a carbureted setup. Slid right in and used flat steel straps bolted to an angle iron, bolted to the frame to hold the front, and the rear of the straps bolted to a channel iron welded in between the ends of the frame rails. Fuel pump supply is on top of the tank along with the sending unit. It's made by Spectra and holds 25 gallons. It a bit deep but I painted it dull black and mounted a rear bumper, so it doesn't look bad.

sorry to bump this old thread, but I am looking to do this on my 47 ford.

When using the granada tank, where would you be filling your tank from? Where does the filler neck hose, etc. go to?

Would it be possible to move the gas tank and keep the same filler location?

You would not want to use the stock in-cab filler location. The tank filler opening is located on the top, centered and slightly rearward. I used a shortened filler neck - about 3" long, cut a hole in the bed, and made a small access hatch to fill it. The outlet and sender location is on the driver side near the bottom of the tank. I think the outlet was only a 5/16 tube, but so far it has not been a problem in my (460 powered) truck. I suppose you could put a larger pickup tube in if you need to make mega-HP.
