Talking Need help w/Mounting in my 46 truck ????

Any thought's, suggestions, and or pics on how you mounted the radiator and battery in the truck. Did you custom make or order the mounts??

Pic's would be so helpful or where I could purchase would be good to.

Also I have brand new glass to put in - how difficult is it to install?

I'll see if I have enough light in the barn to get pic's from my '42, should be the same as your truck.

My front clip is mostly off, so I should be able to get some decent shots tonight.

post an email addy for me to send you the pic's.

You need to do it like:

yourname at provider dot com to bypass the filters on FTE

Pretty much, looks like the radiator is bolted to the radiator support, which also holds the inner fenders

I didn't look to see where the battery or the gas tank was either, battery might be under the floorboard. I'd want the fuses and battery to where i gould get to them easily enough if need be...i/e I don't want to crawl under the truck to change a fuse, etc.

Are you wondering where the stock location is for the battery and gas tank?

Check your email in a few minutes

Gas tank originally mounted under the seat inside the cab, but can be relocated. There used to be a tech article on this site that should how to use a '65-'66 Mustang gas tank out back under the bed. Fuses should not be under the bed, they need to be protected from elements, best is inside the cab somewhere, under dash is the easiest, under the seat is also a good idea if you go with a relocated gas tank. I have also heard of guys using Optima batteries under the seat. The stock location for the battery was on the frame rail, either drivers or passengers, depending on the original engine. If you truck has been subframed, then this original location is lost, so custom would be best.

Yeah I was wondering what the stock location looks like, either way the easiest mount would be best.

Battery under seat

The battery in my 41 is mounted under the seat. It gets it out of the way of everything, but it makes it really hard to get to later. My truck currently has a charging problem. I have to take the seat out to hook up jumper cables.
Other than the access problem, it's a good place to put the battery. It keeps the engine compartment clean.
The fuse box could also go under the seat, but mine is under the dash.

The radiators in either of my trucks aren't even close to stock, so I can't be much help there. I have pretty much just made them fit where I needed to.

Both of my trucks have the gas tank under the bed. One longways inside the frame rail, and one way back by the rear bumper. The fuel filler is the hard part. You have to find a good place to put the filler. I've seen people put the filler in the bed floor, but I use my trucks, so that isn't really acceptable. The 41 has the filler in the left rear fender, for the 46 I'm still looking for ideas about where to put it.

If you still have the filler hole in the cab, and the tank that goes under the seat, it would be easiest to just put it back stock.

Hey Sara, I just thought of something, since your frame has been modified up front, you may not have the original radiator support anymore.

I have a support from a '48 F1 I keep tripping over, I'll take it out to where I have my '42 and see if it'd be compatible to use or easy to modify for use, if so and you need it you're welcome to it. I'm also in N. Cal., about 1.5 hours south of Sacramento.

The frame issue I did not take into account. The rear of the frame from the firewall back is Ford, modified but Ford. From the firewall forward is a Chevy Camero.
The joy of taking over another's project is playing detective which is hard when you have never worked on a truck before, I am learning thanks to you guys & gals.
46fordtruck, thank you so much I found that article on mustang tanks and I am going to run that set up as far as the gas tank. I measured and it will work...
Do you think it would be dangerous to mount to battery and fuse box under the bed next to the cab and have a door in the bed to access it. Is that to close to the gas tank??
Yes I know dumb#5

Good point! I could measure against mine as to fit between the fenders. I take it you have no radiator mount at all now?
