Well I made my first long distance trip in my truck and am pleased to anounce that I am getting around 10 MPG at a steady speed of 50-55 MPH. I recall a thread on this subject not to long ago and a fellow with an F-7 was getting around 6 MPG. I am running a stock 239 with only duel exhaust. I must say I was a little relieved and feel that it will improve once I get my OD trans installed.
refresh my memory a little.......5.83 (high range) rear axle ratio and direct drive 4 speed?
That makes me feel good since I'll have about the same with mine.
I'm also planning an E4OD from a super duty. With the 292 and headers I should get at least as good mileage (if I can keep my foot out of it!!!).
What will the OD ratio be when you get it installed?
(If someone drops a 7.3L IH TD in my lap I may use that with the E4OD)
Cheers,
Rick

Rick that is correct, 5.83 with an 8.25X20 tire. My RPM's are 2800 at 55. Not sure of the OD ratio I'm installing an aux. trans and I don't have any info on the ratios. Do you have any new pics of your engine? How far along are you?
That is pretty decent mileage.I have a 56 F600 with y block and all stock-even exhaust and hope to get 12 mpg. That is what the original owner said.I took the bed off and that weighed 2-4k and hopefully will cruise to Florida in 23 days--so we will know for sure.Truck weighed 8900 pounds before bed taken off.THAT IS HEAVY.I congratulate you on your mileage!!!
I hope my 226 gets that mileage. I want to drive it to the supernationals. I made my reservations today. This will keep me motivated to finish mine. If I ever get the engine out of the machine shop. I decided to stop waiting for it and paint the oil pan, oil filter, and anything else I can now. I am going to clean up the tranny tomorrow and paint it as well. I have to finish a few spots on the front clip and wet sand the cab to repaint. I could be finished in a month if I get busy.
Ksmith, that is the ticket. cleaning doesn't cost anything but time , if you have that to spend and takes the most of it. But it makes a big diffrence, even on a truck thats not finished. It gives me a feeling that I'm getting something done when I'm waiting for something else.
I think you right. The first thing I have to do is buy some more tools. I went out to the garage this morning to get a drill and the door was kicked in. I guess Im a nice guy I had my tools in their boxes stacked neat on the work bench just waiting. I replaced the door with a steel one from Home Depot. I know 4 sets of craftman tools are gone for sure. I had to open my restaurant so I did not get to look around. Just called the police to start a report. I will get a better look this afternoon. I still will finish my tranny today. It seems they did not like old fords, all my parts a still on the bench.
ksSmith203--wow-I would be mad as hell--I am glad you are taking it well!!I met amother man on e-pay that is by yhe same name-and I bouhgt a 56 gastank from him.I thought it might be you.I am sure you will make good use of the winter, and get that truck ready for supernat's.I cannot wait. Will be my first.Better go check my barn--look for all my tools--oh I almost forgot I have a watch-cat--he is 20 pounds and can scratch like a bear!!!!!!
Sorry to hear about your shop (seems to be happening more often). I guess the one pro to having nosy nieghbors, the thieves wouldn't have a chance. They don't miss a thing ! (knock on wood)
