Ok I hope this works. Here is a couple of pictures that I believe are factory Ford scoops. Does anyone have one they want to part with or know where I might find one?
Hi Charles,
Angus is right. It is indeed a factory scoop from the bigger trucks of the '57-60 era. I believe the ones they used from '61 on might also be the same scoop but faced backwards (not positive on that). You might find an original in a salvage yard or on e-bay.
Just some extra info that "might" (maybe) help........
I did a few searches on e-bay a while back for a "super duty hood scoop".
More than a few times I found one. The description described them as being a "super duty" hood scoop, but for early Pontiac race cars. They seem to look identical to the Super duty Ford hood scoop of our era. The description said that some guy supposedly made them "famous" by adding them to his early Pontiac race cars. I wonder if they are indeed a ford truck item?
If I see one again, I'll let you know so you can check it out for yourself.
I just spotted a medium sized Ford truck in a farmyard, maybe a 1961, with "Super Duty" on the side of the hood, and a backwards-facing scoop on top. Since there's other old trucks scattered around, maybe I should just ask if there's any '57-60s, then say I might be able to use some parts off the '61... It can't hurt to ask. Unless I get bitten by the dog, or contract tetanus from rusty metal.
