I'm new to the torsion style suspension so I don't know the proper names for the parts. On the top side there is a short bar like part that is held down with two bolts. On the far ends are rubber bushings conecting to the (A-arm?). The bushings are worn, what are they called and are they replaced easily?
One of the best purchases I have made is a Haynes or Chiltons manual for the car that the subframe came out of. They're about $15-$20 I think. Its really a necessity if you want your parts store to order the right part the first time. It also will explain the installations. Good luck...
Ugly, the A-arm is called an upper control arm and the bushings are called upper control arm bushings. The shaft is called an inner pivot shaft. It is probably easiest to take the arms to a dealer or auto shop and have them do the bushings as they will have to be carefully pressed on and off. Do be carefull of the large bushing on the lower control arm end of the bent torsion bar, as I have heard they are not available anymore. I believe the upper ball joints are screw in (rent the socket at a parts store) and the lower ball joints are press in. By the way, the torsion bar adjustment is to set the suspension at the correct design height, not to raise and lower the truck. This setting affects the camber, caster and toe curves. I helped design this suspension 30 years ago, but double check this info as I'm working from memory.
I rebuilt my Volare IFS a few months back. If you search the old posts from early this spring you will find a thread. MOOG still offers the big torsion bar pivot bushings but they are not cheap. About $150 a pair as I recall.

The bushings I need are the upper control arm bushings. My local parts store has them for $5.48 each, I need four. I also found a few places on-line that have rebuild kits that range between $229-$299.
