Feedback from those who are running no muffler but kept the cat....

I am thinking about just removing the muffler and going with a cat back 4" pipe?? Anyone driven their Ex without a muffler? Does it drone in the cab? Is the noise level in the cab louder with or without the muffler??? Thank you for your feedback!!

What engine you thinkin' of doin' this to?

V10...don't do it. You'll hate inside but not as much as your passengers will.

PSD...I wouldn't. Still too loud but not as "drony" as the V10.

V8...you mean someone actually bought a V8?!?

I have to disagree. Mine is a 2004 6.0 with the cat and straight 4" no muffler. There is definately some turbo whine, but with the windows up it's quiet inside. A friend of mine has the same thing, but no cat, and it drones at about 2100rpm.

I live in Goodyear, Arizona. I talked to my local exhaust guy and he has just about talked me into just changing out the muffler to a 4" and leaving the stock tail-pipe since the front of the exhaust system is 3.5' anyway.......What do ya think??

So you are running no muffler just the cat?? Interesting, there is no drone while at freeway speeds even when you are towing?? If that is the case I may do that???? When you mash on it wide open does it soud good out the tail pipe???

scottman70- I've noticed that the trucks without a cat have an annoying "blatt" under heavy throttle. Mine has a steady whoosh/roar.

This may not be new news to you all but bear with me since I just bought this Ex............

Well I did some calling around to 3 dealers here in AZ and have come to find out if I change the exhaust system in any way other than a chrome tip at the end, it will void my engine warranty. I spoke with 3 different service managers and got the same story from them all???? So I guess the Ex is staying stock until I hit the 100,000 mile mark???????BUMMER???? Don't break down in AZ if you have an aftermarket exhaust you'll be screwed!!
