What is the best oil to run in the V10's. I have a 2000 with 57,000 miles on it. We live in Minnesota so it gets a little chili.
How about Trans fluid also.
My Owner's Manual only lists/suggests one oil.... 5W-20 Premium Synthetic Blend motor oil.
Unlike other vehicle Owner's Manuals, it doesn't even have the little chart listing specific temperatures and substitutes if you live in a warmer climate. I wasn't aware of this until just now.

Chili? DO NOT USE CHILI IN YOUR ENGINE! GO DRAIN IT IMMEDIATELY!
Any 5W-30 or 5W20 is fine for use in 2000 V10. In fact, 5W-30 was the factory fill. Ford superceded it's 2000 requirements for recommended oil with 5w-20 Semi-synthetic later in the model run. Motorcraft 5W-20 (or 30) is readily available from Wal-mart, is cheap, is very good oil and will do its job as good or better than most oils...when changed as recommended.
Tranny fluid is MERCON V from the factory. HOWEVER!! Ford recently reneged on their claim that using MERCON fluid in the 4R100 would cause damage to it by putting out a bulletin earlier this year saying that MERCON V will no longer be produced and that everyone should use MERCON! as the new preferred fluid!
Most of us were scratching our heads as we've heard stories from fellow members whose trannies got fried using the MERCON stuff.
Sooooooooo...what to do? If you can get MERCON V, get it and use that. If not...well use MERCON and hope...
