Tips on buying used Excursion.
I am looking at Excursion for my next "Family Truckster" (Budget range 20 k).
Reccomendations or advice on what to look for, or what to avoid.

Avoid: 4x4 with the 5.4L V8
That's all I can think of really.
Look for things on an Excursion just as you would any vehicle you're buying. Find one you like then post back and we can all maybe give you some specific items on that particular truck to look for.

Drove a 5.4......dog....bad bad dog, the Ex ways in around 7500# rocket science it is NOT! I personally have the 7.3 in my Ex and SD, can't beat it. A lot of V10 owners love theirs, it depends on what ya want, it is my wifes main drive, 16-18mpg helps around town in the mtns. and when we go on a trip we avg. 18-21. and when we hook it up to the toyhauler, I am not lacking for power. 20k should find you a nice rig, my cousins was totalled, found one for 25k, 4x 7.3 lifted with a lot of extra crap nobody needs, but he's a look type guy, but you can find them, good luck, and when ya find something you like, give a holler here and folks will share thier 2 pennies.

Still looking here. Wanting 04 Ex 6.0 for 32,000 and this has been a tought job. Nobody wants to take a v10 has trade. Most have only offered 9 to 10 grand, I feel 11,500 to 12,000 is fair. 02 Ex LTD 86,000 in what I have been told is really good shape for that year and mileage.
Definitly go with at least v10 or diesal, 5.4 is why under powered for that big a vechile, espically if you are towing anything. Try the internet sites and the Ford pre-owed site, they should have something for you out there.
I know where there is good used 02 Ex LTD V10, just joking.....

Check out Ebay... I just got my '01 PSD for 20K and even though I had to pick it up(did I say HAD TO ??? always looking for a road trip) I got a good deal.. It wasn't my first choice but it was a good one and I'm happy with it.. The first choice was an '02 with 75K,intake and exhaust and an edge tuner along with a full gauge pack for $21,500...I have yet to take a good towing trip with it as yet,but did hang the TT on for a 50 mile shakedown and loved it...Next weekend will be taking a 4 day ,300 mile trip which will be a great mix of roads,some hills,etc. No mountains as yet...

Kubotab, I just bought a 01 2wd, 91,000 miles for $9,500. It was exactly what I wanted, but no one was bidding against me. It was at 9, and hadn't met the reserve, so I bid it up $100 at a time until I found it. My purchase price was the reserve.
Just wanted to give you an idea what the market was like out there.
