2003 Fx4 questions

I'm looking at a 2003 Regular Cab Fx4 4.6l, 5 speed with 52000 miles on it, and I'd like some comments for things I'd should look for when talking to the dealership. What's the difference between a regular 4x4 and a Fx4? Anything I should pay special attention to? Any help would be appreciated. I'm going to look at the truck tomorrow, and I'd like to be prepared. The asking price is $14500.

Thanks

Well 14500 is a good starting price never hurts to get them down though depends on condition and stuff fx4 is like better suspension components shocks, and all that and i think it has skid plates just more if you go off roading its like having the 4x4 plus the better suspension and stuff

FX4 package consist of 17" wheels, Rancho shock, skid plates and usually a LS rear differential.
The 5-speeds aren't very strong and have a lot lower towing capacity than an auto tranny. If you don't plan on towing much, they are ok.
Make sure that the transfer case shifts into 4w hi and 4w low. Also verify that the front differential is actually engaging. Sometimes things tend to stick if it's not used periodically. I cycle mine once a month just to keep things moving.

I just talked to the previous owner, and he stated he used the truck to tow a car trailer maybe once every two weeks or so. Should I be worried about the clutch?

Not if it grabs good. Drive it at about 45mph in OD. Then mash the gas to the floor. If it doesn't slip, it should be fine.

The dealer just called me to say that the truck was sold last night. O well, the search continues.

Thanks for the help.
