I need to replace one of the front fenders on my 1956 Truck. I find that Sacramento Vintage ford Parts have new reproduction steel fenders. Does anyone have experience with theese fenders? The truck is painted black so I'm Interested in the fit and finish compared to a good used original fender. Thanks!
Just another try to find out if anyone has experience of the quality and fit of the new steel fenders that are available. Please share any knowledge you have. I'd hate to spend that much money if they need a lot of work. In that case I'd rather work on a used original fender.
I brought one from Mid-Fifty, it appear to be thinner than the original. It fits great but the corners where the metal bends in odd shapes is not as smooth as the original if you can find an original one get it I have one with a dent in the front however it will cost over a hundred dollars to ship so you would come out better scrounging the salvage yards or swap meets.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This was the type of input I was looking for . My truck will be painted black. What did you think about the surface? Did you have to do a lot of preparation before painting it?
Thanks,
... good to see/hear that there's more than just me from this side of the Atlantic in this great forum.
Sorry, but can't help you with your fender question. My truck was/is virtually rustfree the way it came to Germany in 1979. However, I have a one-piece fibre glass frontend, both running boards and the rear fenders sitting in my garage since more than 10 years now. Guess I will sell them as I am pretty sure I will never use them. Looking at your truck I guess you prefer the real steel, too.
Hey Kai!
Thanks for your interest. Yes, I prefer real steel. My truck is also rust-free but I found an old collision repair on the right front fender that needs a lot of work to be perfect. I'm getting tired of trying to get it straight... :-(
Your truck looks great! I've followed your progress in this great forum. Where are you in Germany? I go there several times a year in business. It would be great to see your truck.
The fenders are covered with what I think they called a gel goat, which I just sand with 600 grit paper and primed no real hard work. The craftmanship of the lower front corner where it bolts to the gravel pan is the big difference on the original its solid with the new fenders there is some space in there. I've seen them for $275-$395
each.
