My 97 Lariat with 4.6 auto was purchased used over 5 years ago and had 100K miles on it. It now has 160600 miles on it now and all I have replaced is the battery, the IAC valve, the multifunction switch, the front ball joints and the flywheel. The flywheel was bad when I bought the truck....just got worse.
Oh yeah....a starter too.
I recently bought my '99 F-150 XL 4.6 with 67K miles... all I've done is add alloy wheels and electric door locks. The previous owner (who bought it new) had the ball joints and tie rod ends replaced by Ford under warranty. Also the cruise control recall.
I have a 97 F150 4X4 with 200000 km. Purchased the truck with 160000 km. I had the truck about 7 months now.
Maintanance items are
tires
plugs
oil & Filter changes every 5000 km
fluid changes in diffs and tranny
complete front and rear brakes
Cruse control harness
The first owner replaced
Ball joints
oil & filter changes
brakes
tires
Note: The first owner never changed any fluids except motor oil and filter. I know this because I purchased the truck from a good friend of mine. The motor has never been opened and all sensors are still from factory. I know the complete history of this truck since new.
I've had the spark plugs replaced, new tires, and the cruise control recall done. Other than that nothing else has been done in the year I've owned it.
my lower ball joints started to making noise, so I went & bought some new ones. I saw how they were made & figured I was going to change them & had nothing to lose, so I drilled & tapped in (hammer) some press in grease fittings & greased them. Ive had no noise from them in 7mths now. I know when one starts making noise that its on borrowed time, had one/lower control arm fall & land inside the rim (on a Honda)& luckly I was in town & driving slow.
