adding a power steering pump

Is it possible to add a power steering pump to a 292? I know that it existed but here is my delima. I have a 54 ford truck with a 292. it has the timing cover off a 239( the smaller water pump) the pulley for the water pump is single grove and pressed on. the water pump is also the high mount fan style. so i have a big belt for just the fan and crank. the second belt is crank, gen, and then water pump. So can anyone tell me how to add a power steering pump? I can not switch styles of water pumps because the fan will not clear. will a pump off a lincoln y block bolt up? what all do i need to look for? any pumps besides the stock ford work? any one have pictures? thanks on a side note i posted in the y block section too.

It is part of the "Options Package" afford by FoMoCo (ford/lincoln/mercury) Factory & Dealerships.
Just have to track down the Correct Brackets & Pulley is all.
Look in one of the Factory Truck Shop Manuals, as well as the Truck Parts & Accessaries Book for your year of engine to find out to correctly mount the thing.

I went through that problem and had to find the brackets for a car 292 to bolt up the original style pump. I have pics in my gallery. I started with a 1964 truck 292, no 239 parts. There were a few different combinations of brackets used over the lifespan of the 292/312 in the cars. I would recommend switching to the later water pump and changing your fan shroud to match or using an after market shroud to make things work or even switch to an electric fan, which is what I chose to do.

Any way you go it won't be stock for a truck. There are a few good diagrams that show how the brackets fit in an exploded view that I used to locate the correct brackets, also in my gallery. If you want full size diagrams I can email them to you. The brackets I found were 3 pieces. The first bolts to the water pump. The second bolts to the first bracket to allow adjustment. The 3rd provides support by bolting to the exhaust manifold bolt behind the pump.

You will also need to find an add on crank pulley and a 2 groove dampner from a car engine or the one piece Thunderbird dampner. The brackets position the pump pulley with the outer 3rd pulley on the crank, so the high mount fan will not work with this setup. See the pics in my gallery. The crank pulleys can be hard to find in good condition. They are made of cast iron and can crack, chip, or break. Don't drop one.

EDIT: I added a couple more pics showing the pulley alignment and brackets.

You won't find power steering for a pickup in the shop manual or the parts manuals. I know because I looked there too. Power steering was only offered on the big trucks as stated in the 54-55' shop manual, 700, 750, 800 and 900 series trucks. I guess Henry didn't think we needed it on a little ole pickup.
