I own a 97 XLT Expedition with 130,000. Just prior to going on a 12 hr vacation drive, I took the Expedition in for a full service at the dealership. Did the standard stuff which included a transmission flush. Shortly thereafter I began to have issues with the transmission slipping in and out of overdrive. Took the truck back to the shop and they could not diagnose the problem.
This has continued as an intermittent problem (nuisance). Now the overdrive indicator on the shift level is blinking. This too seems to be intermittent.
While on vacation, I took the truck to a transmission shop. Their recommendation stated to never use the flush method on a transmission. And never do transmission work before going on a vacation because it can tend to stir things up.
What the heck do I do here.....seems like I'm losing faith in the dealership and transmission shops. All this began with my attempt to do preventative maintenance.
I had a blinking OD light in my 1999. Take it to the Dealer. I was told this is the Check Engine light for the transmission. The transmission goes into "safe" mode when blinking and shifts hard. My repair was a valve within and it came to about $400. If you continue to drive with the blinking light, you may fry the transmission totally which could cost much more.
