Expedition Hard Shift 2-3
My 98 Expedition with 5.4 Engine, and i think 4R100 Transmission has a wierd problem. All shifting works fine except for 2-3. If i keep the rpms lower 1800-2300, the transmission shifts ok. not perfect, but no slam, or major issue into 3rd. I brought it to a local shop and they said to have the transmission rebuilt. It showed no codes, and they suspect the direct clutch. Does this sound right? Any other ideas? I just think it is odd that it is in only one shift point.

The fault is related to the direct clutch and its controls.
Might be valve body controls, might be something else.

So you think this guy might be right? If so, is it ok to drive? Once i shift past 2-3, everything is great. Smooth driving and close to 17MPG. Could this problem just continue the way it is, or do you think it will eventually burn out or something? Would you fix it right away, or wait till it really fails? Just asking advice from anyone.
