I just purchased a TCI kit for my '48, but haven't installed it yet. The kit is a bolt on, and looks to be pretty easy to install. I'm also using a 8.8 explorer axle, which is slightly larger in diameter than most axles, so alittle mod on the u bolts and spring mount pads will be in order. The eye to eye on stock leafs is 48", which is short compared to modern leafs. The folks at Classic Performance Products said their springs are the same dimension as mid 70's Dodge 4wd pu front leafs, and they will sell you the kit without the springs. I couldn't find any good leafs in my local junkyards for the right kind of money, and new would bring the total cost up to a complete kit price, so I bought the TCI kit for $450. BTW, I ordered the kit from my local dealer, told him no hurry, just put it on the next stock order, and didn't pay any shipping.
