I just bought a universal cigarette lighter to put in my truck (it actually fit perfectly) and I was thinking that it probably draws a fair amount of current, and I should probably put a fuse inline with it. Does anyone know how much they draw, and what fuse I should use?
It seems to me most cigarette lighters are about a 15 AMP circuit. 15 AMPS being the fuse in the circuit which would mean that the circuit runs about half of that amperage.
Not sure of the amperage. I know that throughout the 80's the GM lighter circuits were on a 20 Amp fuse but they also had some of the interior lights on the same circuit. What gauge is the wire on the new lighter? Somewhere there is a chart as to what gauge wire to use for what amperage circuit, maybe that will give you a clue as to the fuse needed. I think you would be safe with a 15 or 20 amp fuse
