Question Newbie questions on 3.0L V6

Hi,
I'm David from Eureka, CA. I have owned a '90 Ranger, a '95 Ranger and currently own a '99. I need to do some tune up work and need to know:
1. What is the suggested spark plug for this engine?
2. The factory says to gap the plugs at .042-.046, what do y'all really gap them at?
3. What is the suggested spark plug wire replacement brand?
4. Can someone direct me to the location of the EGR valve?
My truck is a '99 Ranger, 3.0L V6 FFV
Thank you all in advance for the help.

My experience with a 96 2.3L Ranger tells me to use OEM for both the plugs and wires. Chasing a misfire that started after a tuneup using store brand wires and autolite plugs. Changed the wires back to OEM and the plugs, and the misfire is not near as often or as violent. I will be happy when I totally eliminate it. Would never use anything else after this.

Sorry I can't help with the pcv location.

Good Luck.

Try and get Motocraft Double Platinum Plugs and get Motocraft Wires.Your local autoparts can tell if the doubles are available, otherwise just get the platniums. Your EGR valve should be broad as day towards the back of the intake manifold on the left side. Check your book on the gap but i thought mine was .054. i have an 02 ranger, same motor

First, welcome to FTE!!!

The correct plugs are Motorcraft AGSF12FMF6, which are the new fine wire platinum plugs. The plug gap is 0.042-0.046. Also replace the plug wires, using Motorcrafts, or NAPA customs, made by Beldon. Use a small amount of antiseize compound on the plug threads, and plenty if dielectric grease in the plug wire boots (plug end, and coil pack end).

Stick with a Motorcaft OEM plug. Motorcraft wires would be a safe bet. I've always split the difference at .044 for the gap, that has worked fine for my 3.0's. Take your time and enjoy.
