[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Oct-02 AT 10:08 PM (EST)]am looking at a nother engine to overhaul, before I buy one need to know how to id 352 ( which out take a mic. to it), thanks for any help PS. the ends of the crankes where the flywheel bolts had deferent marks on them not sure which one belongs to what engine, between the 390,360,352, want to stay oridginal. thanks again

You must measure the bore and stroke to Id an FE motor. Besides you need to check cylinder taper, overbore and condition of the valves and heads before you pay. Or measure the stroke on a smooth running engine with no obvious problems. You are looking for 3 7/8th inch stroke 390CI. 3.5 inch stroke is 352 or 360. Either of these engines can be rebuilt and parts are available. Many build a 360 to 390 CI by switching the crank, rods and pistons. Others install a 428 crank, but I havent done that yet so I have fewer details. I know this can be a PITA but you gotta measure the stroke and bore to know for sure.
