42-47 Truck Cabs
1/2 ton to 1 1/2 ton?
I've got a 42 1 1/2 ton Marmon Harrington conversion, and my cab floor is pretty much gone, and the whole truck needs restoring including a new motor. I can find plenty of 42-47 1/2 ton's complete, would a 1/2 ton cab bolt back onto my 1 1/2 ton chassis?
Thanks,
The cabs will interchange with ease. The only differences in the light duty (1/2 ton) and bigger trucks was the fenders to accomodate for the larger tire/wheels used on the bigger trucks.
Sounds like a neat project you have there. Post some pictures when you can, those M-H trucks don't come up too often.
Basically, I plan on taking my 42 M-H 1-1/2 Ford and putting a 1 ton Pick-up box on it, I'll have to stretch the box 10" if I remember right. It was originally an Air Force Snow blower truck, at K.I.Sawyer AFB in the U.P. of Michigan, it did time at the prison in Marquette, and ended up at a trucking company in Escanaba where I got it about 12 years ago.
I'll be on here a bunch asking a lot of questions about these years of trucks.
Thanks for any advice and answers I get.
I also have a 46 1 ton panel that I plan on converting to M-H 4x4 with the left over parts from my other Marmon-Harrington trucks.
I have a 47 1/2 ton Ford panel that my auto shop students are going to put an 86 F150 4x4 302 efi under. It came from Ill. and has a lot of rust. As a matter of fact it has both half and 3/4 ton front fenders.Would love to find a front left 3/4 ton fender and rear fenders (Dreamer), grill, running boards ... Would you have any suggestions on a good place to look for parts?
The front fenders you want can be found on all 1 ton and larger trucks from '42'-47.
The grille is the same for all sizes of trucks, and all the various bodies. Try sources like eBay for them, they do come up now and then. But shipping can be expensive. It cost be about $120 to have a '46 Mercury grille panel shipped from Canada.
Running boards are a whole 'nother animal. They are hard to find in good condition, if at all. Again, try eBay, or perhaps see if you could find a donor panel, which is also hard to do.
I know of a '47 panel that is for sale about an hour from me, but not sure if it is the 1/2 or 1 ton, haven't seen it up close.
I wish you lots of luck in the project, sounds like a fun learning experience for the kids. Post some pictures when you can.
It will be a while before I get to them, so that gives me more time to plan and scheeme and go parts hunting.
Thanks for the info, and I will need more.
