Im lookin at a rebuilt 88 5.0 for my truck, best buy so far. I had a buddy of mine tell me that the EFI systems are different and wont work(ie. swap my stuff for that stuff). Also said that my cpu might not work with it. Anyone know if this is true or something?? I wuldnt see why/how they coulda changed, but I aint an expert.
I think most 5.0 truck EFIs from around 87 to 90 are basically the same, if they're speed density. But if you mean interchanging with a car type like from a Mustang, then many parts are not interchangeable.
No mustang interchange, just truck to truck. Thats what I thought, maybe the connections might be different but that'd be no big deal. Anyone else know anyhing??
It should be fine. If any of the connectors are different, swap the sensor from your old engine to the new one. Use the wiring harness that is in your truck now on the new engine. The engines are the same (though the 92 might have a roller cam, but this makes no difference). Firing orders should be the same on both.
Phew, this is good news guys, thanks ALOT!! One final question, just to be a pita(haha) do I have to use the wiring harness on my engine now on the new one or should that one be good? Again, thank yall very much, I just cant wait to get the ol truck running again!!
Alrighty, looks like everything is gonna work and fit fine. Hopefully I'll be getting it soon, maybe this weekend. Thanks again guys, you have no idea how much I appreciate it!!!
The 92 system used a knock sensor on the rear of the block, above the bell housing that wasn't used on late 80's systems, as far as I know. As far as physical interchange, all should be ok.
If your computer is set up for a knock sensor, plug it into the harness, and strap it up out of the way.
Well, sunday looks to be the day. Gonna go and look at it and most likely buy it. Ahh, the bellhousing, would that bolt up to my tranny? Mine-E4OD, other engine-AOD. Haha, Im soooo excited!!
