i have a 87 2.9 ranger and this weekend i was thinking about tearing down the upper intake and feul rail to take a look at things. while i am at it i would like to remove the injectors and do a really heavy cleanning on them. Any Ideals. I heard alot about soaking them in sea foam. what do you think?
I'm in the same boat. I'm thinking of sending them off to get new o-rings, filters, and and caps while being cleaned and flow tested at the same time. If not, I'm going to soak them and then blow compressed air through them while actuating them.
I'm pretty sure that our engines are using high impedance saturated injectors, but I'm still trying to find out their maximum duty cycle (or the pulse width being sent from ECU to injector). If you just apply +12VDC to an injector you will burn it up. I want to make a circuit that will actuate them as if they were running but I fear I'll break one!
Seafoam must be good stuff, I've heard many people suggest it.
You want to be careful when putting any liquid into your intake. If you put too much in you will stall the engine or worse...hydrolock it. I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm just saying it's risky.
