hey all, i have to replace the egr tube in my 97 5.0, it has some holes and i discovered thats where the exhaust is leaking from.... i cant get the bottom nut to turn... any ideas? now dont tell me to take a torch to it, i dont have any fancy tools. just a wrench and some elbow grease. i took off the oil filler elbow and the main air intake hose to get better access.... it wont turn. what should i put on it to get it loose? i know i can take that nut off and take the whole egr out with it (after i take off the 2 small bolts that bolt the valve on) and get at the upper nut with it off.... which by the way is rusted. any ideas?
btw- tube was $79 at my local ford dealer....autozone, napa, or checker didnt have it.
Since you're going to take the tube off anyhow, just cut the tube off at the nut. Then soak the nut with PBblaster for awhile. Then put a socket on it and use a good size breaker bar or air gun to get torque and take it off.
The 5.0's passenger's side exhaust manifold has been replaced by many, many owners. Don't be surprised if you have an crack in the manifold between the middle two ports. I see where you can now get an aftermarket manifold for under $150, check RockAuto. No aftermarket supplier for the tube.
The key to getting any of those bolts off is soaking in PBblaster. I soaked the manifold bolts for three days. Spraying them three or four times a day. When it came time to take them off, it was a piece of cake.
dont have a cutter to cut the tube, nor do i have a breaker bar, nor do i have a air gun. keep in mind even after i take some stuff out of the way there is still very little room to work with...

Then move on. Take it to someone who knows how to work on cars and has the appropriate tools.
ahhhhhh the egr is too rusted..... have to replace that too. the a/c is also rusted and not working. another couple hundred bucks there just in parts....glad i'm not paying labor. is there anything that dont rust? heh. thats the last time i buy a vehicle from somewhere other than here or texas
