Cowl to Hood Seal

This is a curiosity question - why did Ford use nails to hold this seal down? I would have used screws. I took the seal off mine, but the nails pulled through. I think I could use tapered head screws with washers so the heads don't stick out more than the rubber, or reuse the nails. Nails just seem wrong. You would think that the nails would eventually become loose, but the drill action of the nail works good. So why nails ?

That's a good question, know that you mention it I wish I've use some type of metal screw when I replace my recently, The old nails I was able to remove acouple and the tough ones are hidden well.
The nails sure do seem to hold well, considering their size...

The answer is always cheaper/faster on the assembly line.

I can just imagine some sap using a hammer, trying to hold those tiny nails and pounding them into metal on an assembly line. LOL . The line boss on his butt screaming "Hurry up". There must be some sort of tool to blast em in quickly.
