I've just about completed a 302 engine swap on a 91 F150, 5 speed and had a couple of questions. First, I installed a new oil pump on the junkyard motor before I installed it but forgot to prime the pump like the book said. Is there anything I can do now to get the pump filled with oil before trying to start the engine or this unnecessary? Second, I'm trying to tack down some missing vacuum hoses. The vacuum fitting on the intake has six connections. Three are taken by one connector, and another goes to the brake booster. Anyone know where the other 2 go? TIA - mjf
You can try and pull the distributor out and spin the oil pump with a special shaft mounted in an electric drill chuck. Since it's a junk yard motor, I'd just fire it up, but that's just me though.
For the vacuum connections, I believe one of them should have a red plastic line going to the fuel pressure regulator and the other should be a black plastic line going to the MAP sensor (black box mounted up, over the heater/AC box area on the passenger side).
Thanks for the info - when I'm ready I'll probably just fire it up. As for the vacuum lines, I have the red plastic one going to the fuel pressure regulator, and the black plastic hose going to the MAP, then there is another red plastic one going to the vacuum reservoir near the battery. I also have a large rubber hose going to the brake a booster and a smaller rubber hose going to the cruise control (I think) that leaves me with one mystery connection on the manifold. Any ideas??
yea, there should be a hose coming off of a black plastic bank around the MAP sensor area (underneath it and closer to the engine), I think that's the one that's missing. I'm not 100 percent sure what the bank is connected to, but I remember it being there. I'm doing this all in my head, from what I can recall, I really hope I'm giving you accurate info. Seems though you have all the "important" stuff hooked up e.i., MAP, FPR, brakes, cruise control, and the big 3 port plug. The cruise control is the big round actuator that's mounted on the driver's fender and has a cable coming out of the center that goes to the throttle body area and is connected with the throttle cable. If you have vacuum hooked to it, you should be good to go.
I'll check my pickup this weekend to make sure, I apologize, for I wish I had it up here with me, I'm on the job at the moment.
