I am looking to purchase a '52 Ford F1. Can anyone tell me what engine and gear shift options were offered this year? One of the trucks I am looking at has a shift on the floor and the other truck I am considering has a shift on the column. They both have different engines....one has a flathead v8, the other is a 6 cylinder. Both sellers say each truck is original.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The truck came with either a flathead V8 or a flathead stright six. Transmission optiosn were a light duty 3-speed, a heavy duty 3-spd, and a 4-spd. Three spped light duty would have been a column shift. Not sure whether the heavy duty 3-spd was column or floor but most likely a floor shift. And the 4-spd was a floor shift. Hope this helps.
Extrusion, Welcome to the site. You should get alot of help on this. I have a 48 F1 so I can tell you what I know about them. A original 1952 F1 "Should" be a column shift truck. If I'm right on this I believe 1950 was the first year they went to a column shift in the F1 trucks. But if I'm wrong about that someone will let me know, but I think I'm right. As far as motors go it could have come with the Flathead V8 or the OHV 6cyl. 1951 was the last year for the 226 flathead 6cyl. Get the vin # off the truck and post it on here and some of the guys on this site will tell you exactly what the truck should have in it. There is a site that you can look at yourself that will break the vin# and the truck down for you. I don't remember it off the top of my head but if you want it let me know on here and I'll get it for you. Hope I helped you out some. Scott

The heavy duty 3 speed was a floor shifter. I ran one for about 10 years in a 49.
Welcome to FTE!
You've gotten your answer, mind if I ask a couple back? Where are you that you have a choice of two '52's?! That's pretty uncommon! Or are you shopping nationally?
What condition are they in? Are these both money pits (unrestored), semi-restored drivers, or fully restored?
It's been a long time since I towed my baby home, I remember the excitement! I also wish now I'd been a little less excited and a little more careful in my selection of a project...
