Low power/bad mileage

well guy's here it goes,89 E250 4.9L I did a full tune up with plugs/wires/cap/rotor then did the walker down pipe to 3" pipe aftermarket cat into a flowmaster turned out infront of the rear tire.sounds great but I seen to have lost most of my power and I'm down to 9mpg from 18mpg.nothing seems to be draging tires are full and I just put in a new air filter.I want my van back as I drive all over for my job and 9mpg is killing me.

Lack of power and gas mileage sounds like timing. 3" exhaust is way to big for a stock 300.

perhaps the hold down nut isn't tight and enough and you rotated the distributor a bit without noticing while doing the tuneup.

Check her timing!

Did you check the cat and muffler for obstructions before installation? It is pretty common for packing junk to be in there plugging things up.

thanks for the replys guy's,the timming is dead on 10* and the spout is in.I was thinking it was the pipe size to but there are alot of guy's running 3" pipe without problems but as usual I will be that one that can't run it.
I have some 21/2" pipe also that I could switch to or is that still to big as I think the walker down pipe is 21/2".

Going to 3" may hurt your power a bit, but it won't kill it. If it really is a noticable decrease in power i would look for PROBLEMS and not exhaust diameter.
