Towing 5th Wheel with 2005 Superduty

I have an issue and can't find any related threads, so I will start a new one.

My 2005 F350 SRW 4x4 sits a couple inches higher than my 2003. The wheels are the stock 18" vs. the 16" stock wheels on the 2003.

When pulling my dual axle 5th wheel (after lifting the 5th wheel 3") it still sits about 1/2" too high in the front. I can't lower it any further into the bed of the truck due to the clearance on the bedrail.

I am sure I am not the only one with this issue. I see 2005's pulling 5ers everwhere unleveled which is not safe.

I have posted a picutre in my gallery. Thanks for any help.

Check on your trailer, at the axle where the pivot and shackles moutn to the frame. You may have an extra hole that you can move your suspension to. If you do not there are longer center pivots that you can get, and longer shackles also.

I tow my fifth wheel with the front up about 3", it has not effected how it goes down the road at all. It just doesn't look good to me. I towed all the way to Sturgis SD from Mich. Not a problem at all.

Good luck.....Toyman

If I remember right when the superduty first came out a lot of people had the same problem. I think the there is a sb from Ford that has the dealer to remove some blocks that will lower the truck about 2". I do not know where you can find this but you might try calling your dealer. I do not know if it was free or if they charged you for it.

I tow a 34" 5th wheel with an '05 F350 SRW 4x4. I changed the rear axle blocks from the ~4" tall to 1 3/4"blocks(F250). Make sure that you get a set of OEM blocks from/for the same wheel base that you have, as the blocks are angle set for specific wheel bases.I got the clearence I was looking for (6 1/2" from bedrail to trailer) and a level trailer. I also did not get any driveline vibrations from the change.

hi 2003PSDF2504x4

I had a similar situation with my 5th and 2004 F350 - had only about 1"
clearance between the trailer and bed rails with stock setup ( 16" rims
I think; truck has camper package option).

I had the dealership remove the 4" rear blocks completely (with new U
bolts - very important not to re-use the old ones). I then added air bags
(ride rites) to allow for some compensation when needed (and also to
get the rake back when not towing). See my gallery for some pics.

The Ford TSB has them replace the 4's with 2's (a la F250), so you could do
that if you don't need the full 4" drop - I needed all the drop so I didn't
have them put in the 2's at all.

I flipped the axles on the trailer for added height. This may be an option for your setup as well.

Toyman....

I have the mor/ryde at the highest point. The 5er is 15,000lbs and I don't think it will be a good idea to go any higher.

http://www.morryde.com/php/products/...owables/RE.php

IMO, You might want to take you 5er to the scales and meassure the weight on the rear axle. If you are really 3" high, you are not putting enough stress on the truck and too much stress on the rear axle.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will try different blocks in the rear.
